Dear PTO/PAC Presidents and Parents,
David Birnbach here from the School Committee… As many of you know, we had
to reduce our music budget this year. Given these (hopefully short-term) reductions, I believe it's important that we try to help parents find
alternative ways to pursue avenues to get their children more exposed to
music education .
We'd like your help to get the word out asap - on an excellent Department of
Community Services (DCS) music education & piano instruction program called
“Keys for Kids." It’s geared to children ages 4 – 12, and the next
sessions begin next week -- September 20-25th -- after school and on
weekends. There are free sample introductory group lessons being given this
coming Saturday, September 18th (10:00 am - 2:00 pm) at the Unitarian
Universalist Church at 6 Locke St in Andover.
“Keys for Kids®” is an engaging comprehensive group music program, designed
to help children discover the world of music through music games, ear
training, rhythm activities, and keyboard playing. It quickly became a
popular way to prepare and inspire for individual instrumental studies. Each
student has a fun learning experience while gaining a wide range of musical
skills and knowledge for a lifelong love of music.
Courses are designed to encourage development of both the individual's and
the group's musical skills. Lessons are organized in a carefully planned
sequence that guarantees fun and success. Class time activities cover many
aspects of musicianship while accommodating children's attention spans.
Children develop a solid musical foundation, regardless of future instrument
choice.
Parents can contact the DCS teacher - Jacob Seltzer for more information -
